Terms of Participation: Civil Society Leadership Programme for Ukraine

Scholarships for the Civil Society Leadership Programme for Ukraine (referred to as “the programme” hereinafter) are available to leaders of civil society organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) based and active in Ukraine. Proficiency in English at B2 level is required.

Each eligible organisation may nominate one person to apply for participation in the programme. Upon acceptance, the selected person commits to participation in all parts of the programme.

For an application to be valid, the eligible person must agree to the terms of participation, submit their application online by 31 May 2024 via this survey.
The following documents need to be uploaded:

    • Letter of motivation (500-800 words, in English) answering the following questions:
      • What are the main challenges in your professional work?
      • How do they affect your organisation and your day-to-day work?
      • Why and how would you and your organisation benefit from your participation in the programme?
    • A short video explaining why it is important for you to participate in the programme (1-2 minutes, in English)
  • CV of applicant in English
  • Legal document stating your organisation’s official data and registration (if available in English or German)
  • Agreement to Terms of Participation

All applicants undergo a selection process, based on set criteria, such as English skills, their position in the organisation, as well as personal motivation and the respective expectation of participation. In addition to that group aspects of group composition will be taken into consideration. If demand exceeds supply, the selection of the final participants is left to the discretion of the NGO Academy team – in accordance with the aforementioned requirements and terms of participation. Each successful applicant will receive a confirmation of registration via e-mail by August 2024 latest.

Scholarships for the Civil Society Leadership Programme for Ukraine are granted to a maximum of 20 participants.

The Civil Society Leadership Programme for Ukraine will take place from 14-23 October 2024 in two parts:

  • Part I: 14 – 17 October 2024
    (2650 Payerbach)
  • Part II: 19 – 23 October 2024
    (Vienna University of Economics and Business, 1020 Vienna)

Participants are expected to arrive on 12 or 13 October and to depart on 23 October 2024.

NGO Academy provides participants with a scholarship for a high-quality training programme covering the following costs (of a total value of more than € 7.500 per person):

  • Tuition fees and materials
  • Single room accommodation (incl. breakfast)
  • Full board
  • Participation in field trips and side events
  • Travel costs
  • Up to two online coaching sessions
  • Certificate upon successful completion

When attending the programme, participants are required to:

  • adhere to application and programme deadlines
  • adequately evaluate their English skills
  • attend 100% of the programme (excl. online coaching)
  • be punctual at all programme sessions
  • be interested in an open exchange and discussion of the programme contents
  • cooperate with the project team for travel arrangements in a timely manner
  • contact the project team in a timely manner in cases of unexpected and unavoidable changes (e.g. inability to attend).
  • Send all required information prior to the onset of the programme (participant and organisation profile, preparation survey, etc.)
  • prepare little tasks in advance, where applicable
  • if necessary: apply for their visas in good time (we will be happy to provide you with an invitation letter)

Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will be awarded a certificate. This can only be issued to the participant and not to the organisation in question. Participation is successful provided that participants have:

  • sent all required information prior to the onset of the programme (participant and organisation profile, preparation survey, etc.)
  • attended 100% of the programme (excl. online coaching)
  • prepared class readings in advance, if applicable

If participants fail to attend sessions of the programme without prior consultation, NGO Academy reserves the right to suspend the participant and its organisation from participating in further programmes and to reclaim any travel expenses.

Due to the need for long-term planning, the programme is subject to changes for organisational reasons.

We reserve the right to cancel the programme if less than the minimum number of required participants have registered. Cancellation will be communicated to all registered participants in good time.

All materials provided for an event are, and remain, intellectual property of NGO Academy or of the lecturers, and are exclusively intended for the personal use of the persons who have attended the event. Any distribution or use of the material beyond this scope (excluding to colleagues within the organisation) requires prior written consent. Commercial use (e.g. for commercial purposes as a trainer) of the documents is strictly prohibited

When attending workshops or modules in the course of programmes offered by NGO Academy, participants consent to being photographed, filmed or taped for documentation and promotional reasons by the organisers, trainers, lecturers and other peer participants, which shall have the right to use and publish (online, social media, print), without any requirement for payment of money or other form of consideration. Participants shall not take, record or transmit any sound, image, and/or description of the workshop other than for private and domestic use

We assume no liability for participants’ personal belongings. Participants are not entitled to assert any liability claims against ERSTE Foundation or Vienna University of Economics and Business resulting from the use of knowledge and skills acquired during the programme.

The participants’ personal data shall be treated with confidentiality. All personal data collected at the time of registration will be stored and used for the purpose of the realisation and management of the programme. The personal data indicated by the participant when registering may be shared with lecturers of NGO Academy. Our lecturers are bound to confidentiality and may not disclose information on incidents occurring during the events – also with regard to personal matters – to third parties.
